Our Bible lesson tonight comes from Acts 8:26-38. Our mission outside of our comfort zone is to be bold witnesses for Christ to anyone as we are led by God.
We must move out of our comfort zone many times to be witnesses of Jesus Christ and share the Gospel. First we must recognize God's leading and direction, especially when it comes to uncomfortable settings. Philip obeyed God's angel instruction s to travel the road from Jerusalem to Gaza. Philip met an Ethiopian on the Gaza road. Disregarding their religious, cultural, social, economic and ethnic differences, Philip obey the Lord and joined the man in his chariot to share the gospel with him.
Phillip definitely had a divine appointment arranged by God. The Ethiopian eunuch saw water and asked why can't he be baptized. So Philip stopped the chariot and they went down to the water. And Philip baptized him. Baptism is symbolic of the death, and burial of Jesus as the believer is being laid under the water, as Christ was laid into the grave: And His resurrection is symbolized by the believer rising from the water, just as Christ arose from the tomb.
Here's what we learn from Philip: 1) We must first believe the good news about Jesus and the answer the call to follow Him. 2) We should study God's Word, so we are able to understand it and help others understand it. 3) We must be obedient to follow the Lord's leading in our lives. 4) We should be eager to tell others the good news that changed our lives and brought us eternal life.
Like Philip, seek opportunities to share the gospel across cultures--whether by serving in a ministry to internationals through your church or community, or by participating in a volunteer missions trip overseas. Be a witness to any race, culture, social or economic status... Be open and obedient to the Holy Spirit.
